Mechatronics - degree program

In 2007 the degree program of Mechatronics was reorganized conforming to the international accredited Bachelor and Master system. The area of Mechatronics comprises twelve institutes, which teach and investigate in manifold fields in the disciplines of mechanical engineering, informatics and electronics.

The Bachelor program of Mechatronics lasts six semesters and finishes with the Bachelor thesis. This thesis is affiliated with an arbitrary institute and its respective fields of investigation and consists of an independently written work guided by an supervisor of the institute and a practical course which is related to the topics of the thesis.

In autumn of 2009 the Master program of Mechatronics will be introduced. It will last four semesters and finishes with the Master thesis, written at one of the institutes.

Although both programs in general are taught in German there is a couple of courses which are taught in English on demand.

You can find all courses taught at our university in the Kepler University Student Support System or in the Course Catalog.

Doing the Bachelor or Master thesis at JKU:
Certainly it is possible to do your thesis or a project in Mechatronics at our university. The necessary steps are:

  • Browse the homepages of the institutes to get to know their fields of education and investigation.
  • If you are interested in the work of an institute you can search for open projects in the homepage.
  • Prerequisites: If you want to do one of these or a related project, you should have the basic knowledge in this area. These fundamentals certainly correspond to the basic courses taught by the institute.
  • When you found an area or a topic which fits your interests and your preliminary knowledge, get in contact with the university assistants of the institute by simply writing a mail or by phoning. Therein it’s important that you indicate that you want to do a project or a thesis in the course of the bilateral exchange and you should present your interests and the knowledge concerning this area.
