Mechatronics at the Johannes Kepler University of Linz (JKU)
These pages are designed to give you an overview about teaching
and research activities within the Mechatronics program at the Johannes
Kepler University of Linz.
Our education as well as our research activities are guided by
a very general View on Mechatronics as indicated by the figure below
Mechatronics
- Combination and integration of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering
and Computer Science
Linz actually is the place where Mechatronics is taught in full
width with nearly equal shares of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
as well as Computer Science from the very beginning.
It is a five year curriculum and was started in 1990. We emphasize
to impart a profound understanding of the basic engineering sciences
and train the application of these to practical problems.
Eleven chairs are devoted explicitly to Mechatronics. They are supported
in education and partly also in research by the departments for
Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics.
Right now there are about sevenhundred students enrolled in the
program, and every year there are about eighty newcomers.
